These series of pictures of sunbirds show the demands on their attention as they go about their simple lives. A loud cry had startled this female sunbird to scan the heavens just as she is ready to work on the nectar of the red button ginger plant. The male sunbird, an even more flighty creature, takes each moment in its stride, in a cadence that cannot be relaxed in the relentless drive for procreation, nurture and sustenance. Even when the magnificent bulbs of the golden dwarf peacock tree form a crown of honey, the bird’s sturdy readiness at rest is a constant reminder of the vibrancy of their existence, in a world that we humans in our troubled ways glance at fleetingly, if at all, casting a moment of distraction from our own weary worries of the world.
